Your art stays with you. Send me the measurements, not the painting. I build the frame to fit and ship it to your door.

A note for Andrew (optional)

A floating canvas frame in solid American maple, made to order for your exact canvas size and depth. The frame surrounds your piece on all four sides while a narrow reveal on the face lets a thin line of shadow show through. That's the effect that gives floating frames their name.

Built to the standard of heirloom furniture, not framing molding. Cut, joined, and finished by hand in eastern Pennsylvania.

Any size, priced instantly. Choose Custom size under step 1, enter your canvas to the nearest 1/8 inch, and your price appears right away. Larger than 36 × 48? Send me the size and I'll quote it personally.

Wood Samples

Not sure which wood is right for your piece? Order a sample set of all four hardwoods (walnut, white oak, cherry, and maple), each finished exactly like your frame, and hold them up next to your art.

What's Included

  • The maple frame in your selected size and depth
  • For a stretched canvas: steel mounting screws
  • For a thin panel or board: a tube of clear adhesive, with the shelf left unfinished where your panel sits
  • D-rings and picture wire, pre-installed
  • Simple mounting instructions

Dimensions & Fit

  • Profile: 1/2" face by 2" depth. Slim from the front, substantial from the side.
  • Fits stretched canvases and thin panels up to 36" × 48"
  • Recess depth: 1/8" to 2". Pick the depth that matches your art: most panels are 1/8" to 1/4", most canvases 3/4" or 1 1/2".
  • Reveal: 3/16" all around your art, so the shadow line stays even on every side.
  • Outside dimensions: art size plus 1 3/8" in width and height.
  • Need an in-between size? Choose Custom size in step 1 and enter your size for an instant price. Custom sizes are what most orders end up being anyway.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Maple. Creamy, close-grained, and one of the hardest domestic hardwoods. Bright and quiet, the wood to choose when you want the frame to disappear and let the art carry the visual weight.

Splined corners. Each corner is reinforced with a wood spline, cut into the miter by hand. It's a furniture maker's joint, and it's what tells you the frame was built, not stamped.

Hand-rubbed hard wax oil finish. No solvents, no varnish, no VOCs. Safe for a nursery or a kid's room.

Why It Lasts

Made for your piece specifically. Every frame is milled for a specific canvas, not pulled from a shelf. Yours won't exist until you order it.

A frame that stays quiet. Maple stays bright and even, mellowing only slightly toward a soft warm tone with age. Ideal for pieces where you want the wood to complement, not compete.

Backed by a promise, not a policy. If anything about the frame isn't right when it arrives, or you change your mind after living with it, email me. I'll make it right, whatever it takes. No time limit, no exceptions.

Easy Installation

Stretched canvas

  1. Place the frame face up on a soft surface.
  2. Set your canvas inside the frame.
  3. Use cards or paper shims to center it evenly.
  4. Secure the canvas with the included screws.
  5. Hang using the pre-installed D-rings and wire.

Thin panel or board (canvas panels, hardboard, wood, aluminum composite)

  1. Place the frame face up on a soft surface.
  2. Put a dab of the included adhesive on each unfinished spot on the shelf inside the frame.
  3. Set your panel in and use cards or paper shims to center it evenly.
  4. Rest something light and flat on the panel to hold it down.
  5. Leave it 24 hours, then hang it.

Takes about five minutes, plus a day to set for panels. Watch the 60-second install video → If you get stuck, email me.
