Instant film frames

Some moments only happen once.

So does the print. No negative, no file, no second copy. Lose it, and the moment goes with it. I build every frame like the photo inside can't be replaced. Because it can't.

One shot.

One print.

No second take.

Some moments deserve more than a screen.

Why I make these

It wasn't a perfect photo. It didn't matter.

I took this Instax of my daughter while shooting samples for these frames. The lighting was bad and it was a little out of focus. There's no backup, no cloud copy, no file on another device. It exists only as it is, imperfect and irreplaceable.

That's who these frames are for. Not the fiftieth take on a phone. The only one you got.

  1. 01 One print. One frame. Instant film has no negative and no file. I build the frame for the only copy there is.
  2. 02 Cut for your film. The mat opening is sized to your film, so a thin line of white shows and it still looks like instant film.
  3. 03 Kept for good. An acid-free mat and backer, with UV or museum acrylic to slow fading. Built to outlast the camera.

Five films

Choose your film.

What's inside

Five layers around one small print.

Every layer that touches your photo is acid-free, so the frame doesn't become the thing that ruins it. Your print is hinged to the back of the mat with acid-free tape on its white border, so nothing ever touches the picture.

See it first

Put your photo in the frame.

Pick your film and a wood, then add a photo of the print you'd never want to lose. When it looks right, take it straight to that frame with your photo already in it.

01Which film does each frame fit?

Each frame is built for one film, with the mat cut for it.

  • Instax Mini: print 2⅛ × 3⅜″, opening 2 × 2⅝″
  • Instax Square: print 2⅞ × 3⅜″, opening 2⅝ × 2⅝″
  • Instax Wide: print 4¼ × 3⅜″, opening 4⅛ × 2 11/16″
  • Polaroid (i-Type, 600, SX-70): print 3½ × 4¼″, opening 3¼ × 4″
  • Polaroid Go: print 2⅛ × 2⅝″, opening 2 × 2⅜″
02Will the white border show?

Yes, on purpose. The opening is a little bigger than the picture, so a thin line of white shows and it still reads as instant film. On Polaroid and Polaroid Go nearly the whole print shows, including the wider bottom edge.

038 × 8 or 12 × 12?

The frame size is the mat. Your print sits centered in it either way. An 8 × 8 is right for a shelf, a desk or a small wall. A 12 × 12 gives the same small print a lot of room, and that space is what makes people walk up to it.

04Which acrylic should I choose?

Standard is clear and shatter resistant. UV protection filters UV to slow fading, and instant film does fade in sunlight. Museum adds UV protection with almost no glare, so the print looks like nothing is in front of it. For a print you can't replace near a window, I'd choose UV or museum.

05Can I change the photo later?

Yes. Open the back, release the tape hinge from the white border, and tape the new print in the same way. The tape only ever touches the border, never the picture.

06Which profile should I pick?

Minimal (¾″ face, 1″ deep) is the quiet middle ground. Gallery (½″ face, 1½″ deep) is slim from the front with real depth from the side. Modern (1½″ face, ¾″ deep) is the boldest. All three are the same price.

07How long does it take?

Every frame is built to order, and most ship in about two weeks. Shipping is free in the US, with tracking. Need it by a date, like a birthday or an anniversary? Email me before you order and I'll tell you honestly whether I can make it.
