Our Wood Selection: Crafted by Nature, Built to Last
At Atlas Wood Company, we believe that the best materials create the best products. That’s why we primarily use solid hardwood, carefully selected for its strength, durability, and natural beauty. Each piece of wood is unique, with its own grain patterns, natural variations, and character, ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike.
The Beauty of Natural Hardwood
Unlike factory-made furniture that relies on synthetic veneers and engineered wood, natural hardwood has unique grain patterns, color variations, and organic imperfections that make each piece truly one of a kind. While some may see knots or shifting tones as flaws, we embrace them as proof of authenticity. These variations are what separate real wood craftsmanship from mass-produced alternatives.
Our Wood Types
Maple – Strong & Subtle
Maple is known for its light, creamy tones and smooth, even grain. It is an exceptionally hard and dense wood, making it highly durable for furniture and shelving. Often used in fine cabinetry and even musical instruments, maple takes 30 to 50 years to grow before it is ready for harvest. Its strength and subtle beauty make it a timeless choice.
Walnut – Timeless & Rich
Walnut is one of the most sought-after hardwoods, loved for its deep brown hues and flowing grain patterns. Unlike many woods that lighten over time, walnut retains its dark richness. Used in heirloom furniture and fine craftsmanship for centuries, walnut trees take 50 to 80 years to reach maturity, making each board a prized material.
Cherry – Warm & Classic
Cherry wood starts as a light pinkish-brown but develops a deep, rich patina over time, darkening beautifully with age. This makes it a favorite for timeless furniture that only gets better as the years pass. It is a highly workable wood, balancing strength and elegance, and takes 40 to 60 years to grow to full size.
White Oak – Durable & Timeless
White oak is known for its distinct grain, durability, and resistance to moisture, making it an excellent choice for long-lasting furniture. Historically used in shipbuilding and whiskey barrels due to its water-resistant properties, white oak requires 50 to 100 years to mature, making it one of the most durable and valuable hardwoods available.
Why No Two Pieces Are Alike
Because we work with real wood, every piece will have natural grain patterns, knots, and slight color variations that give it character. Unlike manufactured plywood or MDF, which have uniform, printed patterns, solid hardwood carries the unique fingerprint of nature. While we take every measure to ensure consistency, we believe that these variations add warmth, authenticity, and personality to every product we create.
Sustainability & Ethical Sourcing
We are committed to sourcing our materials responsibly, whether solid hardwood or high-quality plywood. Our hardwood comes from sustainably managed forests, ensuring that each tree harvested is part of a cycle of renewal. Investing in real wood furniture means choosing durability over disposability—fewer replacements, less waste, and a smaller environmental footprint.
