How Much Does It Cost to Frame a Large Canvas?
Most framing sites won't tell you what a large frame costs until you fill out a quote form.
I'd rather just show you.
Here is what I charge for a solid hardwood floating frame at the most common large canvas sizes. Shipping is included on every one.

Maple and cherry are always the same price. Walnut and white oak are always the same price.
The depth of your canvas doesn't change the price.
Why a 36 x 48 costs more than twice a 24 x 36
Most of that jump isn't wood.
Once a frame gets past about 30 x 40, it needs a much bigger box and UPS ships it as an oversize package. The box costs more. The shipping costs a lot more.
I offer free shipping on everything, so that cost is built into the price instead of showing up at checkout.
What changes the price
Three things.
Size. A bigger canvas takes more wood and more time at the bench.
Wood. Walnut and white oak cost more at the sawmill than maple and cherry. All of my lumber comes from Pennsylvania sawmills.
Shipping. It stays modest until a frame passes about 30 x 40. Then it climbs fast.
What you're paying for
Ready-made floating frames cost less. Many are pine, finger-jointed scraps, or MDF wrapped in a printed wood finish. They look fine from across the room.
A local frame shop can build you something good too. If you go that route, ask what the frame is made of.
Every frame I build is solid hardwood, cut, joined, and finished by hand in my shop in eastern Pennsylvania. One at a time, for one painting.
It should be the last frame that painting ever needs.
If your canvas isn't a standard size
A lot of canvases aren't. I build any size from 8 x 10 up to 36 x 48.
Measure the canvas itself, not the image. You need the width, the height, and the depth of the stretcher bars. Then choose custom size on any of the listings below and it will price your frame on the spot.
